Abstrak

Sanitation conditions at Laino Central Market in Raha City face various issues, such as piles of organic waste, drainage channels clogged with blood and fish scales, poor sanitation at vendor stalls, and suboptimal market zoning. These conditions create potential breeding grounds and food sources for flies, thereby increasing fly density within the market environment. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with fly density at Laino Central Market, Raha City. An observational analytic quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. The study population consisted of 93 stalls selling fresh food products, with a sample of 48 stalls selected via simple random sampling. Data were collected through observation using a checklist and fly density measurements using a fly grill, followed by analysis using the chi-square test. The results revealed significant associations between fly density and solid waste management (p=0.043), drainage and wastewater systems (p=0.013), stall sanitation (p=0.010), and market zoning (p=0.010). It is concluded that solid waste management, drainage and wastewater systems, stall sanitation, and market zoning are associated with fly density. Comprehensive and integrated sanitation improvements are required to control fly density and ensure the long-term realization of a healthy market.
