The effect of education on community knowledge of antibiotic use in x housing complex, Bekasi Regency

Irrational antibiotic use remains a public health concern because it can contribute to antibiotic resistance. One factor associated with this problem is the low level of community knowledge regarding appropriate antibiotic use. This study aimed to determine the difference in community knowledge before and after education on antibiotic use in X Housing Complex, Bekasi Regency. This quantitative study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 53 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires administered before and after health education delivered through oral counseling with leaflet media. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that before the educational intervention, most respondents had a moderate level of knowledge (58.5%), whereas after the intervention, all respondents had a good level of knowledge (100%). The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference in knowledge levels before and after the educational intervention (p < 0.05). In conclusion, there was a difference in community knowledge before and after the provision of education. Therefore, continuous health education is recommended to support the rational use of antibiotics.
